Evergreen
The Evergreen REDD+ project protects forests located in one of the regions with the highest rate of deforestation in the Amazon Biome: the municipality of Apuí.
The area is geographically located near the "Arc of Deforestation" and is neighboring other highly deforested municipalities, as well as the Fortaleza Ituxi Project.
Our challenge
Before the project was implemented, the Evergreen area suffered a deforestation rate of 1.86% annually, which is equivalent to 2,428 soccer fields being cut down each year. The main factor that led to the region's leading deforestation statistics was agricultural and livestock activity.
Our project
In 2020, we will begin monitoring fauna, flora and forest integrity, carbon stock measurements, and the development of income alternatives for extractivist communities.
