"On April 22, 1970, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson took advantage of college students' spring break to call on young people to publicly demonstrate against the growing pollution that was contaminating the air, water, and soil across the country. Almost 20 million people took to the streets, prompting the United States to create the first Environmental Protection Agency.
In 2009, the United Nations Organization chose April 22nd as the International Day of the Earth, a stimulus for people around the world to reflect on the future of our planet.

Years later, the day was chosen for the beginning of the period for the ratification signatures of the Paris Agreement, which establishes the commitment of countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
Those with more aggressive targets can provide financial support to developing regions through the carbon credit, a financial asset that turns unemitted pollutant into monetary resources."

"Driven by the ESG agenda, the demand for CO2 offset financial services is increasing. With a market potential around US$100 billion annually, Brazil sees the sector advancing, but still suffers from a lack of regulation and transparency.

"Our biggest challenges are to regulate the market, so that we have clear rules, and ensure transparency in the sector," argues forestry engineer Janaína Dallan, founder and co-CEO of Carbonext, one of the industry leaders in Brazil. [...]

Janaína's focus is on nature-based solutions, in particular forest conservation. Currently, the company has 23 projects in the Legal Amazon, equivalent to 2 million hectares under protection, from approximately 150 landowners. In partnership with Carbonext, O GLOBO has developed a calculator, to estimate the CO2 emissions of readers, from simple questions such as how much you pay on your electricity bill and how long you spend on the bus.

"Earlier this month, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a warning: the increase in global temperature in relation to pre-Industrial Revolution levels may reach the level of 1.5 degrees Celsius as early as the next decade.

There is only one way to contain global warming: to reduce greenhouse gases. Scientists say that for this, countries must commit to more ambitious targets in the Paris Agreement, which will be discussed at the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP) in Glasgow in November."

"On the agenda in Glasgow, some say they would protect the forests on their land if they were compensated through a carbon credit program." Carbonext is cited for its work developing carbon projects in the states of Pará and Amazonas.

"The São Paulo-based company Carbonext Tecnologia em Soluções Ambientais Ltda develops carbon projects in the giant states of Amazonas and Pará. They use satellite images to map the project areas. The technical team measures the circumference of a tree while estimating its height to calculate how much carbon the project contains, with each tree containing up to 7.5 tons of carbon.
 
Each ton that is not emitted into the atmosphere becomes a carbon credit that Carbonext sells to large and small emitters around the world. CEO Janaina Dallan said that her company has deals with landowners in which Carbonext gets 30% of the revenue from the sale of carbon credits in exchange for developing and managing the entire process, from conducting the carbon inventory to selling the credits."

Carbonext, a partner company in the clip, received all the details of the logistics of the clip, such as water, flights, fuel, energy consumption, etc., and calculated how many tons of carbon were emitted during production. Directed by Mess Santos, the clip of "De Tanto Sol", featuring Melim, is the first carbon neutral audiovisual record in the world. This means that the carbon emissions generated with the production of the video were offset with actions that avoid deforestation and, consequently, the emission of greenhouse gases."
